On Monday 2 August 2027, a total solar eclipse crosses North Africa and the Middle East. Luxor lies close to the centre of its path, where the Moon will completely hide the Sun for about 6 minutes and 19 seconds, with maximum darkness at around 13:02 local time. No total eclipse seen from land will last as long again until 2114. In August, the sky over Upper Egypt is almost always clear.
