Responsible Travel — Our Commitment to Egypt, Its People and Its Future

At Egypt For Travel, responsible travel is not a marketing statement — it is the way we have operated since 2010. As a locally owned Egyptian company holding Egyptian Tourism Authority Category A Licence Number 1947, we have a direct responsibility to the country, the communities, and the heritage sites that make Egypt one of the world's greatest destinations. This page sets out exactly how we honour that responsibility on every tour we operate.

Cultural & Heritage Responsibility

Protecting Egypt's monuments. All our guides are licensed Egyptologists who brief every traveler on site conduct before entering any monument. No touching of ancient surfaces. No removing of any material. No behaviour that damages or disrespects Egypt's 5,000-year heritage. We take this seriously and enforce it on every single tour — without exception.

Authentic cultural experiences. We actively avoid tourist-trap experiences that misrepresent Egyptian culture. Our itineraries include genuine local markets, authentic Egyptian restaurants, and real interactions with Egyptian communities — not staged performances. We want our travelers to experience the real Egypt, not a manufactured version of it.

Supporting Egypt's heritage conservation. Every entrance fee included in our tours directly funds the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities' conservation work at Egypt's greatest sites — from the Valley of the Kings to the Philae Temple complex to the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum. We are proud to contribute to preserving these sites for future generations.

Responsible photography. Our guides advise travelers on responsible photography at all sites — respecting photography restrictions at certain monuments, never using flash in tombs and painted chambers, and always seeking permission before photographing local people.

Economic Responsibility

All money stays in Egypt. We are a locally owned Egyptian company. Unlike international booking platforms that take large commissions and transfer profits overseas, every dollar you spend with Egypt For Travel stays in Egypt — paying Egyptian guides, Egyptian drivers, Egyptian hoteliers, and Egyptian suppliers. Your travel spending directly supports Egyptian families and businesses.

Local guides, local drivers, local suppliers. Every member of our operational team is Egyptian. Our guides are licensed Egyptian Egyptologists. Our drivers are experienced Egyptian professionals. Our hotels and restaurants are locally owned Egyptian businesses wherever possible. We have maintained these relationships for fifteen years.

Fair wages and professional development. We pay our entire team above the industry standard and invest in ongoing professional training — language courses, customer service, emergency response, and specialist site knowledge. A well-trained, well-paid team delivers a better experience for every traveler and creates sustainable livelihoods for Egyptian families.

Supporting local artisans. We actively encourage our travelers to buy directly from local producers — Papyrus makers, perfumers, carpet weavers, and craftspeople in Khan El Khalili, the Luxor Souk, and the Aswan market. We do not take commissions from any artisan or market purchase. What you pay goes directly to the maker.

Locally owned accommodation. Where quality and safety standards allow, we partner with Egyptian-owned hotels, guesthouses, and ecolodges rather than international chains — ensuring your accommodation spending benefits local business owners and their staff.

Environmental Responsibility

Leave no trace. All our guides operate a strict leave-no-trace policy at every site visited. No litter is left behind under any circumstances. Our vehicles carry waste collection equipment and our team ensures every site is left in the same condition as it was found.

Modern, low-emission vehicles. Our fleet of air-conditioned vehicles is maintained to modern emission standards. We are progressively moving toward hybrid and lower-emission options as they become available and practical for Egypt's road conditions and distances.

No smoking policy. All guides and drivers are prohibited from smoking during working hours — for client comfort, for site preservation, and for the health of the Egyptian natural and built environment.

Eco-friendly accommodation partners. Where available, we partner with environmentally responsible hotels and ecolodges in destinations including Bahariya Oasis, Dahab, and Marsa Alam — properties that operate with solar power, water recycling, and responsible waste management practices.

Marine and wildlife protection. On Red Sea snorkelling and diving excursions, our guides enforce strict no-interference policies — no coral touching, no marine life disturbance, and no collection of any natural material from the reef. On desert safari excursions, off-road vehicle use is restricted to designated tracks to protect fragile desert ecosystems.

Water conservation. We encourage travelers to use refillable water bottles where safe to do so, and we work with accommodation partners that offer water refill stations to reduce single-use plastic consumption.

Social Responsibility

Accessibility. We work to make Egypt travel accessible to travelers with mobility requirements, dietary needs, visual or hearing impairments, and other specific needs. Contact us before booking and we will design your itinerary to accommodate your requirements specifically — including accessible vehicle options, elevator-equipped accommodations, and site-specific accessibility advice.

Child welfare. We do not engage with, support, or direct travelers toward any activities involving working children or child labour in any form. If our travelers observe any situation involving child labour during their tour, we ask them to report it to us immediately.

Support for solo female travelers. Egypt For Travel provides specific advice and dedicated support for solo female travelers. We offer female Egyptologist guide options on request, safety-first itinerary planning, and pre-trip briefings on dress codes, cultural norms, and safe behaviour in each destination. Egypt is a safe destination for women travelers — and we ensure it stays that way for every client we serve.

Responsible tipping culture. We brief all our travelers on fair and appropriate tipping practices in Egypt — ensuring that tipping reaches the people who deserve it and is not collected by intermediaries. Our guides earn fair salaries from Egypt For Travel and do not depend on tips for their basic income.

Our Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Our management team reviews our responsible travel practices on a regular basis, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as better options become available. We welcome feedback from travelers on any aspect of our environmental or social performance — good or critical.

If you have questions about our responsible travel policy, or if you would like to specifically request a more sustainable itinerary option, please contact us directly.
