6-Day Egypt Morocco Tour 2026 — Cairo, Tangier & the Blue City of Chefchaouen
Overview
There are two different six-day ways to combine Egypt and Morocco. This is the one that goes north — and the one most travelers have never considered. One full day in Cairo covering the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Then north to Tangier — Morocco’s most cosmopolitan city at the Strait of Gibraltar, where Africa and Europe are separated by just 14km of open sea — and from there a day into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, Morocco’s Blue Pearl: a mountain medina painted in dozens of shades of blue by the Jewish refugees who settled there in the 15th century and whose custom it was to paint doorways, steps, and walls in the color of sky and heaven.
Chefchaouen is one of the most-photographed places in North Africa. It looks like nothing in Egypt, nothing in the imperial south of Morocco, nothing most international travelers have encountered before. Egypt For Travel runs this as the northern alternative to the Casablanca and Marrakech version — same duration, same price tier, completely different Morocco. The Egypt leg runs fully privately with a licensed Egyptologist guide under ETA Licence Category A No. 1947.

Tangier — Africa and Europe Face to Face
Tangier is Morocco’s most geographically dramatic city. Standing at Cape Spartel — the Day 4 opening stop — you see both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meeting at the northwestern tip of the African continent, with the mountains of Spain clearly visible across the Strait of Gibraltar to the north. The city itself has been international in character since it was designated a neutral international zone in 1923, drawing writers including Paul Bowles, Jack Kerouac, and William S. Burroughs, as well as diplomats, spies, and artists throughout the mid-20th century. The American Legation in Tangier is the oldest US diplomatic property in the world (1821) and the only US National Historic Landmark outside US territory. Tangier is not just a gateway to Chefchaouen — it is a city worth a full day of exploration in its own right, which is exactly what this itinerary gives it.
Why Chefchaouen Is Unlike Anywhere in Morocco or Egypt
Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 by Moroccan refugees expelled from Andalusia during the Spanish Reconquista, and later expanded by Jewish refugees fleeing the same expulsion. The blue paintwork that covers virtually every surface of the medina — from doorsteps to alley walls to staircase risers — was introduced by the Jewish community as a representation of the sky and the divine. The result is a mountain medina that photographs like a fever dream and feels, in person, like walking inside a blue watercolor painting. No other place in Morocco looks like this. No other place in Egypt looks like this. The 2-hour drive from Tangier through the Rif Mountains makes the arrival — a valley of blue buildings appearing suddenly below a cedar-forested ridge — feel appropriately dramatic.
Casablanca & Marrakech vs. Tangier & Chefchaouen — The Decision
| Choose | If You Want |
|---|---|
| Casablanca & Marrakech | Hassan II Mosque · Djemaa El-Fna square at sunset · Majorelle Garden · The Morocco everyone recognizes |
| This: Tangier & Chefchaouen ← | Africa and Europe face to face · A blue mountain city unlike anywhere else · Less-visited Morocco · More unusual photographs |
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "best" Egypt Morocco tour mean for this itinerary?
It means best for travelers who want the less-visited version of Morocco — the north rather than the south, Tangier and Chefchaouen rather than Casablanca and Marrakech. It is “best” for photographers seeking unusual visuals, for travelers who have already visited Marrakech, and for anyone who wants to see a side of Morocco most tour itineraries skip entirely.
Is the Chefchaouen visit a day trip from Tangier or an overnight?
Overnight — Day 5 is a full day in Chefchaouen with an overnight stay, and Day 6 returns to Tangier for the departure flight. This gives a full afternoon and evening in the blue medina, including sunset (when the blue walls glow extraordinary gold) and the following morning before departure.
Are there direct flights from Cairo to Tangier?
Yes — Royal Air Maroc operates direct Cairo–Tangier connections. Alternatively, connections via Casablanca are also available. Egypt For Travel confirms the best available routing at the time of booking.
Do I need visas for Egypt and Morocco?
Egypt: $25 e-visa or on arrival. Morocco: most Western nationalities enter visa-free for stays up to 90 days. See our Egypt Visa Guide 2026.

Tips for Departure
On Day 6, avoid booking outgoing international flights before 3:00 PM from Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport. For Cairo (Day 2): closed-toe walking shoes essential for the Pyramids plateau. For Chefchaouen (Day 5): the medina’s blue-painted lanes are cobblestoned and often steep — the same shoes are non-negotiable. A light jacket is essential for Chefchaouen evenings year-round — sitting at altitude in the Rif Mountains, the town cools significantly after sunset even in summer. Bring a fully charged camera or phone with good storage for Chefchaouen — the blue medina deserves more than a phone half-full of photos from earlier in the trip.
Children Policy
Infants up to 2 years: free, sharing parents’ room. Children under 6: 25% of adult rate on an extra bed. Children under 12: 50% of adult rate. Children 12+: full adult rate. Maximum one discounted child per room. Chefchaouen is well suited to older children and teenagers who enjoy walking and photography — the medina is compact and visually engaging for all ages. Tangier’s Kasbah and Grand Socco are also good experiences for children.
Payment Policy
25% deposit required to confirm booking. Christmas and New Year departures require 50% deposit. Balance due one week before arrival, payable by bank transfer, Visa, Mastercard, or cash on arrival in Egypt. Rate locked from deposit payment.
Installment Policy
Installment plans available over 6, 9, or 12 months. Balance must be settled before arrival. Contact our team via WhatsApp (+20 155 555 2466) to set up a plan at booking.
